Psychedelics: The Capacity for Consciousness Expansion is Within Us
We need an educational revolution
This past week was the largest psychedelic conference in history. People showed up in droves to understand the power of plants. Nature has provided naturally occurring substances that can elevate our consciousness and heal us. Not everyone wants to do drugs, though and we don’t have to…
Because the most potent psychedelics on the planet (DMT and 5MeODMT) already exist within us! Wisdom traditions have long held the belief that humans can awaken to an expanded state of consciousness.
DMT, dubbed the 'spirit molecule,' may be the key to this direct knowing.
The most potent psychedelics exist in humans
Back in 2019, Jimo Borjigin, PhD and her team at the University of Michigan discovered that N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is present in the mammalian brain at the same level as other neurotransmitters, such as serotonin. This groundbreaking discovery received some attention at the time, but since then has mostly been ignored. The spotlight now is on the psychedelics in plants - not humans.
Pioneering DMT researcher Rick Strassman, PhD has stated that the discovery of DMT in the human body received much less attention than the discovery of endorphins. He pointed out that the discoverers of endorphins won Nobel Prizes. In contrast, the achievements of DMT researchers have gone mainly unnoticed.
DMT discoveries
While there continues to be a lack of interest in funding endogenous DMT research, there is ongoing research into the exogenous form of this substance. In other words, funding is abundant to study the external form of the same substance that is within us. While the public deserves to know more about this amazing molecule inside of us, that is not what drives research. Scientific discoveries are usually driven by commercial potential. This becomes distinctly difficult when the healing remedy is innate to human beings.
However, it's worth knowing about the advances in DMT science. These discoveries give us some insight into the workings of this same substance within us. For example, Algernon Pharmaceuticals is exploring the use of DMT for potential treatment for stroke and traumatic brain injury (TBI) recovery. This exploration is based on the finding that DMT can stimulate neurogenesis (the birth of new neurons) and neuroplasticity (the malleability of neural circuits). At low concentrations (sub-psychedelic levels) DMT can promote the reshaping of neural pathways and the growth of new brain cells.
Ede Frecska, PhD, and his team in Hungary have researched the use of DMT for emergency room patients. During heart failure, patients risk brain damage or death when the brain becomes starved of oxygen for too long (otherwise known as ‘hypoxia’). These researchers have investigated DMT as a neuroprotective agent, preventing oxidative stress, a lack of oxygen. They also explored other neuroprotective aspects of DMT: it has an anti-inflammatory effect.
So why do we have DMT inside of us?
These findings give us some insight into the physiological roles of endogenous DMT. This magical molecule may be helping to sustain our life by facilitating cell protection, regeneration, and immunity - even at sub-psychedelic levels.
The effects on consciousness are especially intriguing, however. The same team at the University of Michigan that first discovered the presence of endogenous DMT in humans has since found that the brain's 'posterior hot zone' is activated during psychedelic states. During a DMT experience, the brain area known as the reticular activating system (RAS) that modulates human perception is activated.
Future research has the potential to confirm Strassman's early speculation that endogenous DMT plays a vital role in everyday perception.
We may be on the verge of discovering that reality is far more subjective than we ever imagined!
The future is calling us
At the conference in Denver this past week, activists rushed the stage to advocate for indigenous elders and honor their voices. The clash between those wanting to promote and profit from medicinal plants is meeting with those who wish to preserve the sacredness of these substances.
However, absent from the stage was anyone advocating for the mystical potential innate to us. That debate was entirely absent. One has to wonder, why are we not more curious about what lives within? Why are we not advocating for more research and education regarding endogenous DMT?
Whether during childbirth or sacred sexual experiences, anecdotal evidence suggests that humans can reach psychedelic states naturally. In today's secular society, this can seem foreign. In ancient times people believed in their mystical potential. Wisdom traditions are based on the acknowledgment that humans have vast possibilities within.
Today ancient wisdom and modern science can co-exist. They can serve to reinforce the other. And once people discover that psychedelic states are accessible naturally, the consciousness of the planet will rise. It is truly empowering to know what lives within us.
We need an educational revolution to reclaim our innate potential. For those interested in participating in creating this awareness, the Psychedelic Cervix Practitioner training is open for enrollment.
"Today ancient wisdom and modern science can co-exist. They can serve to reinforce the other."
Theoretically yes, but only if modern science is totally independend from commercial interests. There is a reason why DMT research outside of us is funded but not inside of us. There is no money to be made to help and encourage people to heal themselves. At the very core of all of the worlds problems is unchecked greed which is based in egocentric materialism.
The good news is, that each of us still has the freedom and power to their own research within themselves.
