Orgasm, it feels good but is there something otherworldly to it?
Medical doctor Wilhelm Reich believed that the energy of orgasm can heal us and even impact the natural world. In 1940, he coined the term, "orgone" – from "orgasm" for the life force energy from that exists in the Universe and within us.
He built an orgone accumulator device to harness this energy and then had patients sit inside it to experience physical healing. His patients were benefiting and being healed of various illnesses by orgone - sexual, life force energy.
Reich then experimented to see if orgone could influence the weather. He tested his device in an area that was in drought. Rain began pouring down after orgone energy was released into the atmosphere.
Reich's experiment sounds odd today but wouldn't have been surprising to ancient cultures that engaged in heiros gamos. This sacred sexual ritual was practiced to bring fertility to the crops and produce an abundant harvest for the community. The understanding was that divine power can be evoked through intentional sexual intimacy.
What these ancient people once knew has been mostly lost today. The sex act was once understood to have the potential to activate profound shifts in consciousness. Sex was believed to have supernatural power.
It may be that Jesus knew this. That he practiced sex as a sacrament, which fueled his ability to do the supernatural.
Wilhelm Reich thought as much. In The Murder of Christ, Reich shares his idea that Jesus was crucified due to his sexual teachings being too controversial for the time.
Reich himself became too controversial. In 1947, after moving to the US to spread the word about his discoveries, the government shut down his work, claiming that orgone energy did not exist. They were determined to do away with this thing that 'does not exist.' His books were banned and burned. Reich was imprisoned, where he later died.
Sexual energy may be the key to accessing psychedelic states naturally. Orgasm ('the little death') may be the way to access psychedelic ego death. Although this idea may be too controversial for us even today.
